Photography By: W Photography Summary In the early 1890s, Phoebe Hearst purchased a magnificent wellhead fountain from the City of Verona in Italy. She imported the fountain and installed it as the center of the grand piazza-style estate she was building in the hills of Pleasanton, California. The acres of rolling countryside are now known as Castlewood Country Club. Mrs. Hearst’s original estate fell to a fire in the 1960s, but the fountain and many of the original artifacts still remain.
